This is the watch that made a lot of people fall for Glashütte Original, and it earns the reputation. The PanoMaticLunar wears its asymmetry with real confidence, building the dial around an off-center time display, the brand's oversized Panorama Date, a finely detailed moon phase and a small seconds that all sit in balance without ever lining up in a row. The silver dial is doing quiet, expensive things up close, with a brushed concentric finish on the registers set against a softly frosted opaline field, hand-applied diamond-polished markers, and blued alpha hands that flash when the light moves. It is a dial that rewards a second and a third look.

What tends to surprise people is how easy it is to actually wear. The steel case stays compact and rides slimmer than the numbers suggest, slipping under a cuff and looking just as right on a smaller wrist as a larger one. The finishing is the real thing, with a satin-brushed mid-case running into a polished bezel and polished lug hoods, topped by a box-section sapphire crystal that lends a little vintage warmth. It comes on a supple crocodile strap with a folding deployant clasp, so it stays secure going on and coming off, with no fumbling at a pin buckle at the end of the day.

Flip it over and the case back is where this one really separates itself. The in-house automatic is adjusted in five positions like a chronometer and finished to a level you usually have to spend well past this to find, with a hand-engraved balance bridge, swan's neck fine adjustment, heat-blued screws and engine-turned decoration across the plates. It holds a 42 hour power reserve and winds on a three-quarter rotor. This is a 2024 example in excellent pre-owned condition that comes complete with its original box and papers, which makes it about as easy a recommendation as I can give to anyone who wants serious German watchmaking that still wears like an everyday watch.
