This is the watch that took the Seamaster Diver 300M from a cult favorite to a modern icon. Omega's 2018 redesign kept everything people loved about the original and upgraded the rest, and it shows the moment you look at the dial. It is made entirely of ceramic, with the signature wave pattern laser-engraved into the surface so it has real depth and texture rather than a flat print. The grey colorway has a quiet metallic sheen that shifts in the light, and because the dial is ceramic it will not fade, tarnish or age. It looks every bit as sharp as the day it left the factory, and it will keep looking that way for decades. A discreet date sits at six, the applied indices and skeleton hands glow at night, and the whole thing reads as easily on a Tuesday at the office as it does at the water.

For a 300m diver it is surprisingly easy to live with. The 42mm steel case is 13.8mm thick with sloped flanks that let it slip under a cuff, and Omega tightened up the lugs so it wears compact across the wrist. The ceramic bezel is the highlight of the hardware, with a crisp white enamel diving scale and a smooth, low-effort ratchet that is far easier to grip than the old one, while the luminescent pip lines up against the skeleton minute hand for an instant zero to sixty timer. It comes on Omega's structured rubber strap, which is genuinely one of the best on any production diver. It hugs the case with no gap, exits straight down off the lugs instead of fighting your wrist, and carries a wave motif on the underside that keeps it supple and comfortable all day. With 20mm lugs it is simple to swap onto a bracelet or strap if you want to change the mood.

Flip it over and the new sapphire caseback shows off the Master Chronometer caliber 8800. This is one of the most thoroughly tested movements in the industry, certified by both COSC and the stricter METAS standard, adjusted in six positions and built to shrug off magnetism up to 15,000 gauss with its silicon balance spring. It carries a 55 hour power reserve, hacking seconds and a quick-set date, and the finishing is lovely, with arabesque Geneva waves sweeping across the bridges and a ceramic-bearing rotor doing the winding. Rated to a true 300m with a helium escape valve, it is equal parts dress watch and dive tool.
